Silver Linings Playback 5 – Jupiter Ascending

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre are continuing their quest to watch maligned movies in hopes of finding a silver lining.

For the month of June, they are watching blockbuster films that were meant to be the start of franchises … but weren’t.

They begin the month with Jupiter Ascending, a sci-fi epic by the Wachowskis, makers of The Matrix, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas. The plot of Jupiter Ascending is a bit muddled, but essentially it is the story of the titular Jupiter, the accidental heir to Earth who must protect it from a trio of greedy siblings who want to control it to seize control of some goo that can keep them young. It’s a bit of a mess … but together, Joel and Andy will find the film’s silver lining.

Theme Song: “Bankin’” by Bronson Scott

Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne gives it his all as the villain of Jupiter Ascending
