Silver Linings Playback 6 – Godzilla (1998)

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre are continuing their quest to watch maligned movies in hopes of finding a silver lining.

For the month of June, they are watching blockbuster films that were meant to be the start of franchises … but weren’t.

This week, they watch the 1998 Godzilla film directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick. (It also features a supporting cast of not one, not two, but three Simpsons actors.) With a soundtrack that slaps and a proven monster flick formula, it should have been a big hit … but wasn’t. However, together Joel and Andy will find its silver lining.

Theme Song: “Bankin’” by Bronson Scott

Hobo Radio 432 – An unstoppable killing machine

Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle are joined by their friends Molly Regan, Andy McIntyre, Erin Fox and Marty McGuire for the fourth annual Hobo Madness tournament.

This year, in honor of Bill Paxton, who squared off against an Alien, Terminator and Predator, and Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla‘s MonsterVerse, they are pitting 16 monsters against each other to crown one ultimate winner. The monsters have been split into two categories – sci-fi and horror – and the match ups have been randomly drawn out of a hat. They are also randomly drawing the location of these battles, using four possible locales – Desert, Snowy Mountain, Island Jungle and Bustling Metropolis.

Does King Kong dream? Does the Predator recognize Arnold Schwarzenegger? Is Jason an unstoppable killing machine? The answers to these questions and more are on this week’s show.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “… echoes in Eternity” by Laszlo Harsanyi
  • End – “Run Away” by 6 String Opera
