As anyone who saw it this weekend or read Joel Murphy’s review already knows, The Amazing Spider-man 2 wasn’t very good. But it didn’t have to suck. In fact, this week, Murphy and Lars discuss a bold way that Sony could save this franchise.

They also discuss Lars’ recent trivia night shenanigans, the Internet backlash against the Star Wars Episode VII casting news and Murphy’s nerd rage over an incorrectly-used phrase.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker got some national attention this week for a Buzzfeed story revealing that he had sent direct messages on Twitter to a stripper in Portland. The messages themselves were incredibly tame and the whole story seemed a bit overblown, but it got the attention of Joel Murphy and Lars for one very simple reason: the strip club the woman is employed at, a place called Casa Diablo, has billed itself as the “world’s first vegan strip club.” The two discuss what exactly make a strip club vegan in this week’s show.

The dynamic duo also talk about Clint Howard’s tour de force Ice Cream Man, the new Fox show Gotham and BBC’s Sherlock. And Lars talks about why he hates all cities in America while Murphy wholeheartedly endorses one city in this great nation of ours.

Earlier this week, Joel Murphy posted photos and a feature article about the 14th annual Baltimore Comic-Con, which was held this past weekend. But what he didn’t talk about in that article was how he ended up in the background of a segment being shot for the new season of Comic Book Men, which featured Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes interacting with the guys from the show. On this week’s podcast, he shares that story (and gives some insight into all of the careful planning that goes into filming “reality” TV).

Murphy and Lars also share the story of a vigilante movie reviewer who called the police to stop a man from using his phone in a theater. And, they tell the most adorable and sexy story ever involving Batman, a cat and a burning building.

Hobo Radio 268 – Comic book legend Dennis O’Neil

Dennis O’Neil is a legendary figure in the comic book career. He was a writer and editor who worked for both Marvel and DC comics over the course of his impressive 30 year career. As the editor of DC Comics Batman titles in the 90s, O’Neil was the driving force behind the memorable Knightfall storyline, which saw the new villain Bane “breaking” the Batman, leaving him paralyzed and unable to continue fighting crime. This story became one of the key inspirations for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

In anticipation of the release of that film last July, Joel Murphy interviewed O’Neil for a story he was doing about the creation of Bane. They ended up talking in-depth about O’Neil’s career, though sadly most of the content of the interview never made it into the finished article. So, with the Internet abuzz with talk of Ben Affleck being cast as the new Batman, Joel thought it was a good time to release this interview in its entirety for the first time ever. If you are a fan of comics, you will definitely want to listen to this.
