Hobo Radio Interview – Remembering Kevin Conroy

We are heartbroken to learn that the voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, has passed away at the age of 66.

In 2009, Joel Murphy interviewed him for the site. Today, Joel shares his thoughts on the loss of an icon and shares the audio from that interview.

He talked to Conroy about his journey from  Juilliard to Gotham, how Mark Hamill got him up to speed on the comics and his thoughts on Christian Bale’s Batman voice.

Hobo Radio 451 – We’re doing two ands now?

Joel Murphy has a few petty gripes with the entertainment industry this week. One is the use of two “ands” when listing actors in a new film and the other is Marvel’s aversion to using the actual names of superheroes and groups in their television shows.

Murphy and Lars Periwinkle also pay tribute to Batman: The Animated Series, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this week, talk about diversity casting in superhero films and share Donald Trump’s bizarre demand of any movie filming in one of his properties.

What’s with all of the ands? Why is Iron Fist white? Can we start a book club like Oprah? The answers to these questions and more are on this week’s show.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Joel Osteen” – word and music by Dolly Parton; parody lyrics by Roy Zimmerman and Melanie Harby

Hobo Radio 364 – I don’t know your anatomy

This week, Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle share their various car-related exploits. From Lars’ vigilante justice to Joel almost being run off the road by an old woman to their friend Andy’s frantic search for his keys, it has been a crazy week for car-related hijinks.

The dynamic duo also discuss an ironically-named food supplement, the lack of unknown Batman: The Animated Series facts and Johnny Depp’s inability to be normal.

At this point in their careers, would you pick Robert De Niro, Al Pacino or Jack Nicholson to star in your sentimental coming of age film? Is Lars the hero we need? And what is his fixation with tuna cans? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Back to Me” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Burning Sensation” by Jack Kotz
