Silver Linings Playback 20 – National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre continue their quest to watch maligned movies in hopes of finding a silver lining. For the month of September, they are watching films starring the one and only Nicolas Cage.

This week, they watch National Treasure: Book of Secrets, a film where Benjamin Franklin Gates must kidnap the President and find a city of gold in order to clear his ancestor’s name. The plot is as ridiculous as it sounds, but together Joel and Andy will find the film’s silver lining.

Silver Linings Playback 19 – USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre continue their quest to watch maligned movies in hopes of finding a silver lining. For the month of September, they are watching films starring the one and only Nicolas Cage.

They start the month off with USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, the 2016 film directed by Mario Van Peebles. The film is based on the true story of the WWII ship that was sunk in the middle of the Philippine Sea. The survivors were forced to stay afloat in shark-infested waters for days before anyone came to rescue them. The film suffers from poor CGI and a muddled story, but together Joel and Andy find its silver lining.

Silver Linings Playback 18 – Son of Godzilla

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre continue their quest to watch maligned movies in hopes of finding a silver lining. For the month of August, they are going deep on unnecessary movie sequels.

They close out the month with Son of Godzilla, the 1967 Japanese kaiju film that sees Godzilla forgo smashing tall buildings in order to focus on raising his son, Minilla, who has a knack for getting into life-threatening situations. Together, Joel and Andy find the film’s silver lining.

Silver Linings Playback 17 – Octopussy

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre continue their quest to watch maligned movies in hopes of finding a silver lining. For the month of August, they are going deep on unnecessary movie sequels.

This week, they watch the 1983 Roger Moore James Bond film Octopussy, which for some reason climaxes with Bond wearing full clown makeup to save the titular Octopussy (and the American military base she’s on) from being blown up during a circus act. Together, Joel and Andy find the film’s silver lining.
