Hobo Radio Interview – Kestrin Pantera

Kestrin Pantera has one of the coolest names ever.

She also has one of the coolest careers ever. As a classically-trained cellist, she has performed alongside Weezer, Beck and Brandi Carlile. Recently, she has been playing shows with David Wain and Ken Marino’s Middle Aged Dad Jam Band.

But her true passion is directing. Her latest film, Pretty Problems, is a funny and unpredictable exploration of wealth and privilege. After earning acclaim on the festival circuit, it is now available to watch on Hulu.

We talk to Kestrin about directing independent films, performing alongside Weird Al Yankovic and being raised by the also-amazingly-named Commander Pantera.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “Vishnu Meets Funk” and “Ancient Ritual” by Lucas Perný & Miloslav Kollar

[This episode is being released during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, Pretty Problems wouldn’t exist.]

Hobo Radio 310 – Cool Lars

This week, Lars adopts a low, deep voice and speaks in 50s slang in an effort to be cool. But he pales in comparison to the coolest man on the planet, “Weird Al” Yankovic, who just released his 14th studio album Mandatory Fun.

Joel Murphy and Lars discuss Yankovic’s epic career, which has spanned their entire lives. They also discuss a few interesting Kickstarter projects, including the infamous potato salad guy and a company looking to make a Fitbit for kegel exercises.

How did Jack Black get into Weird Al’s latest video? How much money will Joel be blowing on Pug-let? How often does Lars do kegels? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

  • End – “Not For Sale” by Corrin Campbell
