Silver Linings Playback 79 – Simply Irresistible (ft. Stephanie Cmar)

Joel Murphy and Andy McIntyre watch maligned movies and find their silver linings. For the month of November, in honor of Thanksgiving — the best food holiday of the year — they are watching maligned films featuring food.

This week, they are joined by Top Chef All-Star Stephanie Cmar. They watch Simply Irresistible, the 1999 rom-com starring Sarah Michelle Gellar that has a magic crab and psychedelic desserts.

Theme Song: “Bankin’” by Bronson Scott

Hobo Radio Interview – Top Chef’s Jamie Tran

The past year has been an incredibly difficult one for restaurant owners. Many have struggled to stay open and to stay financially solvent during a global pandemic.

This struggle is front and center in season 18 of Bravo’s Top Chef. It was also the motivating factor for Jamie Tran, chef and owner of Las Vegas’ The Black Sheep, to compete on the show.

We talked to Jamie about her path to becoming a chef, her restaurant’s struggles during Covid and what it’s like competing on Top Chef.

For Top Chef: All-Stars LA, the popular cooking competition brought back 15 chefs from previous seasons. With the season finale airing this Thursday, only three of them remain to compete for the top prize.

One of those three chefs is Stephanie Cmar, a New England native who was eliminated in the qualifying round of Season 10 (which her dear friend Kristen Kish won), then came back and finished seventh in Season 11. We interviewed Stephanie about her previous runs on the show, her decision to come back for All-Stars, her friendship with Kish and what the future holds.
