Hobo Radio 540 – Oscars so right?

This week, Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle share their thoughts on the 92nd annual Academy Awards, which were held this past Sunday. After voicing their disappointment over underwhelming slate of nominees on a recent show (including snubs for things like The Farewell, Knives Out, Midsommar, female directors in general and all of the actors in Parasite), they were pleasantly surprised to discover the Academy was shamed into actually picking the best nominees this year. Joel also shares his thoughts on all nine Best Picture nominees, which he and Molly recently finished watching.

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Trouble in Hollywood! (feat. CupcakKe)” by Mise Darling

Hobo Radio 539 – A scholarly examination of Billy Gunn’s WWE theme song “Ass Man”

Often the best segments on Hobo Radio are those unplanned moments when Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle stumble onto a bizarre, unexplored topic and dive headfirst into it. This week, that happens again when an anecdote by Lars sends them down a rabbit hole that leads to a lengthy examination of Billy Gunn’s early 2000s theme song “Ass Man.”

They also discuss the ridiculous notion that Birds of Prey is doomed to fail because, according to Internet trolls, the women in it don’t look hot.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Ass Man” by Jim Johnston

This year’s Academy Award nominations are out and they are once again so white and so baffling. In a surprise move, Joker receives the most nominations of any film and it joins Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, JoJo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood and Parasite on the list of Best Picture nominees.

Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle share their thoughts on all of the nominations. They also discuss Hollywood’s love of remakes and the new Birds of Prey trailer.

Hobo Radio 537 – I don’t care!

It’s may be a new year, but things haven’t changed all that much. The Golden Globes still continue to be a ridiculous awards show and this year’s host, Ricky Gervais, continues to pride himself on “taking the piss” out of the celebrities in the room; who he wants so desperately to love him.

Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle share their thoughts on the Golden Globes and Gervais’ “edgy” jokes. They also discuss Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leaving the Royal Family and the show Wings.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Untitled” by The Globes
