Hobo Radio Interview – Jacob Reed, Our Frasier Remake

Next Thursday, Paramount+ will launch a reboot of the acclaimed sitcom Frasier. One day before its release, another reimagining of Frasier will drop; an unsanctioned one made by a ragtag group of animators and filmmakers who love the show.

Our Frasier Remake is the brainchild of Jacob Reed. It’s a collaboration between over 100 artists who each took a short clip from the season one episode “My Coffee With Niles” and reinterpreted it however they saw fit. The result is a mix of animation, puppets and live action clips pieced together into one chaotic episode.

Joel Murphy and Molly Regan participated in the project. And now Joel sits down with Jacob Reed to discuss this massive undertaking in detail.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “Vishnu Meets Funk” and “Ancient Ritual” by Lucas Perný & Miloslav Kollar

COVID-19 has disrupted all of our lives. Movies have been delayed. Toilet paper can’t be found. And all major sporting events have been cancelled. But not even the Coronoavirus can stop our annual Mabel Memorial Hobo Madness Tournament.

This year, Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle are joined by Molly Regan, Marty McGuire, Andy McIntyre and, for the first time ever, Julia Periwinkle (Lars’ wife). This year’s tournament pits characters from 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Better Call Saul, Community, Frasier, Girls, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Parks and Recreation against each other to see who would survive the longest during a global pandemic.

This week, they decide the Elite 8 round of the tournament (and get to the bottom of whether or not chips and cheese dip count as nachos).

Hobo Radio 376 – The non sequiturs of their respective genres

When trying to figure out why the Violent Femmes, B-52s and Counting Crows are playing a show together, Lars Periwinkle set a new bar for pretentiousness.

In addition to discussing the new low, he and Joel Murphy also talk about Krampus‘ unexpectedly big opening weekend, Doctor Who going out of its way to silence critics and the impressive, eclectic career of Robert Loggia.

What was the secret to Krampus‘ success? Why aren’t female writers getting hired in Hollywood? Is Hell’s Kitchen the safest place in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Carol of the Bells” by Hollywood Drunks
