Hobo Radio Interview – Lane Moore, How to Be Alone: If You Want To, and Even If You Don’t

Subscribe:

There’s a contradiction at the core of Lane Moore’s new memoir, How to Be Alone: If You Want To, and Even If You Don’t. The book bills itself as a guide to navigating solitude. However, Moore’s heartfelt, intimate writing places you so deeply into her world that you feel profoundly connected to her. Her musings on solitude feel like a conversation you’re having over drinks with a dear friend, which inevitably makes you feel less alone in the world.

We recently talked to Moore about the process of writing the book, how she’s been coping emotionally with some of the heavier subject matter and her plans to write a Will Smith-esque theme song for the inevitable film adaptation.

If you’ve heard the phrase “He’s just not that into you,” then you are familiar with Greg Behrendt’s work. Behrendt’s work as a script supervisor on Sex and the City, which led to him co-authoring the 2004 New York Times bestseller He’s Just Not That Into You. However, before launching into that wildly successful career, Behrendt started out as a stand up comedian.

He returns to those stand up roots with his new album Why Are You In Here? We talked to him about the new album, his thoughts on comedy as a whole and how Margaret Cho is responsible for his career.

Hobo Radio Interview – Dana James Jones, director of Star Wars: Revenge of the Incels

Dana James Jones made his Brick/Star Wars parody mashup Revenge of the Incels with one viewer in mind – writer/director Rian Johnson. Thanks to social media, Johnson saw the video and loved it. And so did a lot of other people.

The film follows the plot of Johnson’s film noir Brick, but the protagonist in Revenge of the Incels is Johnson himself – and he’s trying to get to the bottom of who killed Kelly Marie Tran. This week, Joel Murphy has an in-depth chat with Jones about how the film was conceived, shot and released out into the world. They also talk about Jones’ run-in with Johnson’s predecessor J.J. Abrams, Jones’ first Star Wars fan film (which he shot at age 10) and their predictions for Episode IX.

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Cantina Rag” by Jackson F. Smith

Hobo Radio Interview – Lane Moore

Lane Moore is a comedian, writer, actor, musician … and one of the most delightful people on the planet. While she has been hard at work writing her first book, How To Be Alone, she somehow still finds the time to produce and host her critically-acclaimed comedy show Tinder Live! With Lane Moore.

While we’ll all have to impatiently wait until November to read the book, we chatted with Lane about what makes Tinder Live such a special show. We also pressed her for an update on “Laundry Guy,” the cute boy from her building she met in the most adorable way (a saga she turned into a viral Twitter thread).
