Hobo Radio 323 – Coherence’s Emily Baldoni

We recently announced that HoboTrashcan is hosting a Gathr screening of the award-winning indie film Coherence in Baltimore at the Landmark Harbor East on Oct. 23. But to make the screening happen, we have to presell 90 tickets and there are just three days left to do it. (Gathr works like Kickstarter – if the ticket goal isn’t reached, the screening doesn’t happen and everyone who bought a ticket isn’t charged.)

To promote this screening, and the film itself, we’ve been interviewing people involved with the film. Last week, we talked to the film’s co-writer and director James Ward Byrkit and star Maury Sterling. And today we talk to star Emily Baldoni.

What’s it like making a high concept, highly-improvised sci-fi film on a small budget? What’s next for Baldoni? Did she really meet Byrkit on a project called Booty? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

If you like the show, please help spread the word and buy tickets to the screening here:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “The Ring” and “Butterfly Lament” by Peacock Ball
  • End – “Staring into Mirrors” by Sexstone

Hobo Radio 268 – Comic book legend Dennis O’Neil

Dennis O’Neil is a legendary figure in the comic book career. He was a writer and editor who worked for both Marvel and DC comics over the course of his impressive 30 year career. As the editor of DC Comics Batman titles in the 90s, O’Neil was the driving force behind the memorable Knightfall storyline, which saw the new villain Bane “breaking” the Batman, leaving him paralyzed and unable to continue fighting crime. This story became one of the key inspirations for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

In anticipation of the release of that film last July, Joel Murphy interviewed O’Neil for a story he was doing about the creation of Bane. They ended up talking in-depth about O’Neil’s career, though sadly most of the content of the interview never made it into the finished article. So, with the Internet abuzz with talk of Ben Affleck being cast as the new Batman, Joel thought it was a good time to release this interview in its entirety for the first time ever. If you are a fan of comics, you will definitely want to listen to this.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Superhero” by Candye Kane

Hobo Radio 257 – Grey DeLisle

Many people hear voices in their heads, but most people don’t put those voices to good use. However, Grey DeLisle, who says she has an entire theatre company rolling around inside her brain, has used those memorable voices to have one of the most accomplished voice acting careers of anyone working today.

From Daphne Blake in Scooby-Doo: Mystery Inc. to Azula in Avatar: The Last Airbender to Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City, DeLisle has carved out an impressive and eclectic career making animated characters come to life. In this hour-long chat, we talk to DeLisle about her humble beginnings as a singing telegram and a lackluster stand up comedian to her rise to one of the top names in voice acting.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “God’s Got It” by Grey DeLisle
