Hobo Radio Interview – Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland

What began as a quirky loosely-based parody of Doc Brown and Marty McFly in Back to the Future has evolved into an intergalactic/interdimensional animated sitcom about a dysfunctional, but well-intentioned family of misfits.

The complexity and brilliance of Rick and Morty isn’t surprising if you’ve been tracking the careers of its two creators. Dan Harmon has made a name for himself as the architect of the beloved, deconstructed sitcom Community and Justin Roiland is known by Channel 101 fans for his scifi cloning comedy House of Cosbys (as well as the voice of the Earl of Lemongrab on Adventure Time).

We talked to Roiland last year about season one of their brilliant Adult Swim show, so with season two rapidly approaching, we caught back up with him and Harmon to talk new character combinations, the trouble with clearing DMX songs and the unique experience of attending Comic-Con.

Hobo Radio Interview – Jacq the Stripper

As the name would imply, the blonde bombshell Jacqueline is, indeed, a stripper. She is also a writer and a comedian who takes her experiences working in clubs across America and turns them into funny and engaging stories.

Joel Murphy talks to Jacq the Stripper about how she got into the business, the idiosyncrasies of regional clubs and this country’s complicated relationship with strippers and female sexuality. And, because she is Canadian, they also talk about Tim Hortons’ amazing donuts.

Hobo Radio Interview – Hall of Fame WWE Announcer Jim Ross

World Wrestling Entertainment’s Attitude Era featured so many classic moments – everything from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin giving Vince McMahon and Co. a beer bath to Undertaker throwing Mankind off of the top of the cell at King of the Ring. And through it all, Jim Ross was there to call the action. In addition to being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Ross has coined a term featured on Urban Dictionary (“sloberknocker”) and has seen his iconic “As God as my witness, he’s broken in half” call turned into a meme.

The Hall of Fame announcer joins the show this week to talk about his life as a ring announcer, his post-WWE career (including the “Ringside: An Evening With Jim Ross” live show that is coming to Baltimore May 16) and the chances he’d ever go back to calling wrestling full-time.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “Vishnu Meets Funk” by Lucas Perny & Miloslav Kollar and “The Ring” by Peacock Ball
  • End – “Boomer Sooner” by Oklahoma State University

Hobo Radio Interview – Rachel Brosnahan

In a world of liars and murderers, call girl Rachel Posner is one of the few truly sincere people. While Frank Underwood and the other politicians in House of Cards all claws and backstab for power, Rachel wants nothing more to live a simple, happy life. It’s easy to see why Doug Stamper is so drawn to her.

Playing Posner on the show is the lovely and charismatic Rachel Brosnahan, who talked to us about auditioning for the part originally listed as “Call Girl,” Rachel’s twisted relationship with Doug and that unforgettable scene inside the van in the season three finale.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “Vishnu Meets Funk” by Lucas Perny & Miloslav Kollar and “The Ring” by Peacock Ball
  • End – “Occam’s Sikhweee” by Sikh Knowledge
