Hobo Radio Interview – Dana James Jones, director of Star Wars: Revenge of the Incels

Subscribe:

Dana James Jones made his Brick/Star Wars parody mashup Revenge of the Incels with one viewer in mind – writer/director Rian Johnson. Thanks to social media, Johnson saw the video and loved it. And so did a lot of other people.

The film follows the plot of Johnson’s film noir Brick, but the protagonist in Revenge of the Incels is Johnson himself – and he’s trying to get to the bottom of who killed Kelly Marie Tran. This week, Joel Murphy has an in-depth chat with Jones about how the film was conceived, shot and released out into the world. They also talk about Jones’ run-in with Johnson’s predecessor J.J. Abrams, Jones’ first Star Wars fan film (which he shot at age 10) and their predictions for Episode IX.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Cantina Rag” by Jackson F. Smith

Hobo Radio 486 – Meryl Streep is overrated

Joel Murphy makes a bold declaration; one that could change the course of Hobo Radio forever. According to him, universally-praised actor Meryl Streep is, a bit, overrated. Lars Periwinkle strongly disagrees.

They also discuss Patrick Stewart’s return to Star Trek, how real-life Russian spy Maria Butina stole Black Widow’s thunder and the rumor that Walt Disney’s last words were “Kurt Russell.”

Is Meryl Streep Al Pacino? Did Pacino and De Niro really never film any scenes together in the movie Heat? Is David Cross there with you? The answers to these questions and more are on this week’s show.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Kohe Yanneda” by Niranjala Sarojini

Hobo Radio 485 – TinFinity

Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle started co-hosting Hobo Radio on July 18, 2008. This week, they celebrate 10 years of podcasting together.

They take a look at how the podcasting game has changed over the last decade, the state of DC Extended Universe films and the underwhelming filmography of Star Wars: Episode IX screenwriter Chris Terrio.

If they do the show long enough, will it become ironically popular? Is Hoagiefest overrated? Is Joel okay? The answers to these questions and more are on this week’s show.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “All The Love” by The Space Merchants

Hobo Radio Interview – Lane Moore

Lane Moore is a comedian, writer, actor, musician … and one of the most delightful people on the planet. While she has been hard at work writing her first book, How To Be Alone, she somehow still finds the time to produce and host her critically-acclaimed comedy show Tinder Live! With Lane Moore.

While we’ll all have to impatiently wait until November to read the book, we chatted with Lane about what makes Tinder Live such a special show. We also pressed her for an update on “Laundry Guy,” the cute boy from her building she met in the most adorable way (a saga she turned into a viral Twitter thread).
