Hobo Radio Interview – Chris Parnell

From Dr. Leo Spacemen on 30 Rock to Jerry Smith on Rick and Morty to Cyril Figgis on Archer, Chris Parnell has mastered the art of delivering ridiculous lines with a perfect deadpan. He’s the consummate comedic straight man who makes every scene he’s in better with his earnest delivery.

We recently spoke to Parnell about his journey to become an actor, his experience at the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special and the wavering of his Christian faith.

Hobo Radio 326 – Lawrence Gilliard, Jr.

Bob from The Walking Dead and D’Angelo Barksdale from The Wire may not seem that similar on paper, but both characters have a vulnerability and a tragic quality that gets you instantly invested in them, even as you fear for the worst. That’s because they are both played by the charming and talented Lawrence Gilliard, Jr.

Gilliard joins Joel Murphy and Lars to discuss acting, producing his own shows and his newfound passion, improv.

What was it like for the accomplished actor to take an Intro to Improv class? How does it feel to see The Wire finally get the recognition it always deserved? Will Gilliard ever get to finish his sandwich? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

Hobo Radio 323 – Coherence’s Emily Baldoni

We recently announced that HoboTrashcan is hosting a Gathr screening of the award-winning indie film Coherence in Baltimore at the Landmark Harbor East on Oct. 23. But to make the screening happen, we have to presell 90 tickets and there are just three days left to do it. (Gathr works like Kickstarter – if the ticket goal isn’t reached, the screening doesn’t happen and everyone who bought a ticket isn’t charged.)

To promote this screening, and the film itself, we’ve been interviewing people involved with the film. Last week, we talked to the film’s co-writer and director James Ward Byrkit and star Maury Sterling. And today we talk to star Emily Baldoni.

What’s it like making a high concept, highly-improvised sci-fi film on a small budget? What’s next for Baldoni? Did she really meet Byrkit on a project called Booty? The answers to these questions and more are in this week’s podcast.

If you like the show, please help spread the word and buy tickets to the screening here:

Hobo Radio 268 – Comic book legend Dennis O’Neil

Dennis O’Neil is a legendary figure in the comic book career. He was a writer and editor who worked for both Marvel and DC comics over the course of his impressive 30 year career. As the editor of DC Comics Batman titles in the 90s, O’Neil was the driving force behind the memorable Knightfall storyline, which saw the new villain Bane “breaking” the Batman, leaving him paralyzed and unable to continue fighting crime. This story became one of the key inspirations for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.

In anticipation of the release of that film last July, Joel Murphy interviewed O’Neil for a story he was doing about the creation of Bane. They ended up talking in-depth about O’Neil’s career, though sadly most of the content of the interview never made it into the finished article. So, with the Internet abuzz with talk of Ben Affleck being cast as the new Batman, Joel thought it was a good time to release this interview in its entirety for the first time ever. If you are a fan of comics, you will definitely want to listen to this.
