Hobo Radio 543 – We could not be further away

Subscribe:

Since the last time Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle recorded a show together, daily life has descended into chaos. They try to make sense of this new COVID-19 quarantine world on this week’s show.

They take a look at the state of wrestling (which is somehow still producing new shows), share what they’ve been binging and out each other’s HBO GO guilty pleasures (which include Hobbes and Shaw and Detective Pikachu.) Also, in these dark times, Joel turned to Fred Stoller.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Trapped” by Kellee Maize

Hobo Radio Interview – Peter Diseth from Better Call Saul

Subscribe:

The tragedy of Better Call Saul is that we know going in that our protagonist’s fate is sealed. As much as we may empathize with and root for Jimmy McGill, we know that he is destined to end up being the Saul Goodman we watched in Breaking Bad (and eventually, the Gene Takavic we see glimpses of in Better Call Saul).

But perhaps, if things had gone a different way, Jimmy could have turned out like Bill Oakley, the trans fat loving, “petty with a prior” spouting deputy district attorney that serves as a foil for McGill on BCS.

We explore this alternate universe Jimmy with Peter Diseth, the actor who plays Oakley. We also discuss how he landed the role (which included an awkward bathroom encounter with Bob Odenkirk), what it’s like being a day player on TV shows and how hard it is to eat food take after take in a scene.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • Interstitial – “Vishnu Meets Funk,” “Give It (All Night Long” and “Ancient Ritual” by Lucas Perný & Miloslav Kollar
  • End – “El Sonido de la Vida” by Silva de Alegria

This week, Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle check in on the latest with two iconic rap groups – Public Enemy and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Public Enemy is being torn apart over a dispute involving a Bernie Sanders rally and a trademark infringement lawsuit and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is being “torn apart” by boneless chicken wings.

They also remember the late, great James Lipton from Inside the Actors’ Studio.

This week’s music:

  • Intro – “Giddy Up” by Tahuna Breaks
  • End – “Tha Crossroads (Acoustic Cover)” by Tony Dean
